       Having a good eating habit
After reading the two articles, I found some information for a question which is what will we eat is good for our health? In Pollan’s article, he said some things about this question. Maybe these suggestions are not suit you very well, but to be honest his ideas about eating habits is healthier than most people’s eating habits. He first said do not eat the things which the oldest people wouldn’t recognize as food, because he thought some food come up in the recent years are not health for people. I totally agree with Pollan, because some new “food” come up this years have so much additives or trans-fatty acid. The food may look nice and tasty, but the additives and trans-fatty acid are really bad for people health. He also talked about do not eat so full when you have meal. For this l would like to say my mum always telling me “Eat 80 percent full when you have meal”. At last the author said “Eat like an omnivore”. I think this is the most important suggestion in the article. By doing this you can have all the nutrition you need and with some exercises you will have a good figure.

In Dupuis’ article, he told people should eat fellow your heart which means eat whatever you want. I will say I totally disagree with this author, because if you eat just you like you cannot get enough nutrition from just one or two kinds of food. When people eat something they do not like, they may feel unhappy. But this is really good for your health. If you want to live a long and a healthy life, Dupuis’ idea is not a good choice.

Some ideas for the Eater's Manifesto

For now I always eat hamburgers pizzas and drink some soda. I choose to eat this kind of junk food is because I have a lot of classes and homework to do. As an international student, the language is the most difficult part for me, so under the big pressure of the homework and lectures I do not have time to cook some health meal by myself. I want to change the current eating habit, because it is not healthy.

Interesting Points

Yuan's blog also talked about the the breakfast. In his blog  I found an interesting point, he said eating breakfast is good for our mental health. The breakfast will help you feel less stress and less depressed. And another interesting point I found is in Deng's blog. In his blog he said the vegetarians eating habits will be more healther then the other eating habits. But in my opinion, the vegetarians are not that health, because we need a lot of nutrition from all kinds of food, but not just in the vegetables.

Skipping Breakfast

Last week we recorded our four days’ meals and posted to our blogs. After I read other people’s post I found a very interesting thing which is most classmates in my class always choose to skip the breakfast. I think they just want to sleep a little longer and do not want to get up so early. But I think breakfast is the first meal of a day and it is a very important meal for beginning a new day. In order to improve my thought, I did some research for “Skipping the breakfast”.

In my opinion, people skip the breakfast for two reasons. The first reason is if you skip your breakfast you can sleep a little longer, by doing that you can rest well and can have more attention during the class time. The second reason is if you skip the breakfast you can lose some weight and keep a good figure. But skipping the breakfast can really help you on these two things? The answer is NO. From my research on a web site called WebMD-Better information Better Health said that “Skipping breakfast is often a big no-no if you are trying to lose or maintain weight because it leads to high-calorie cravings later (Skip Breakfast, Get Fat).” The researchers which came from Imperial College London, found 20 healthy, non-obese people to have a test. The test is to let these people not having breakfast at first and then showed them photos of high- and low-calorie foods. Then the researchers will observe how the brain’s reward center changes. And they found “The brain's reward center lit up more vividly, or became more active, when the person saw a high-calorie food as opposed to a low-calorie choice (Skip Breakfast, Get Fat).”But when these 20 people ate the breakfast the result is totally opposite. So we can know that skip breakfast will not help you lose weight, instead you will gain some weight easily.

For those people who think skip breakfast can save some time to sleep longer and can help you pay more attention, I also found some evidence to prove it wrong. From my research it said “Breakfast helps wake you up (Top 10 Reasons not to skip your breakfast)”. Studies show that “Eating breakfast helps improve memory and positively affects the tasks that require the retention of new information. Conversely, a hungry child can be apathetic, disinterested, and irritable when confronted with difficult tasks. Breakfast is the key. No doubt adults need breakfast as much as kids do (Top 10 Reasons not to skip your breakfast)”. So it is show that skip breakfast cannot help you pay more attention but will distract from your class.

All in all, not matter what reasons you skip breakfast is not a good choice. Actually even I always skip the breakfast, but after reading the articles which I found on the internet will help me to get rid of the bad habit. So from now have a good breakfast and get a better health.

People like to drink soda and tea during their meal. In the journals which I read, people like to eat noodles and hamburgers. Two of my friends have a disordered meal schedules. In my perspective, they ate too much meat than vegetables.

Milk

Every day in the morning before I go to the university, I will have a glass of milk and two pieces of toast. When we were young, maybe from four or five years old, we begin to drink the milk and people all around us always said that milk is good for your health. But I think none of us will find when we started to drink the milk and how the milk was produced. In order to figure out these two questions I did some research through the internet.

From the research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that the human history of drinking is less than 7,000 years. The interesting thing is about 7,000 years ago which is the Neolithic age, the human ancestors cannot digest the milk. If someone had some milk, he or she will be got ill. Today there are about 90 percent people in Nordic can digest the milk and there are still some people in African and Asia cannot drink the milk because their body cannot provide enough lactase to digest the milk. A doctor from London University called Mark Thomas claims that in the recent 7,000 years the ancestors of Europeans started to feed cows to get milk. After a long time their body can make lactase to help to digest the milk and get nutrition from it. And then these people past their DNA generation by generation. So nowadays most Europeans can digest and get nutrition form the milk.

When it comes to how to produce the milk, I searched in google and find a short video about it. At first the video showed us a lot of cows feeding in a large farm. The farm feed the cows use special food which can help the cows make more milk. When the cows are ready to make the milk, the cows will send to a machine which can automatically squeeze out the milk from the cows. And then the staff will collect all the milk and send to another place to do some test to make sure the milk is clean and no harm for customers. After testing the milk is perfect to sell, the staffs will put all the milk into another machine to do the disinfection. At last the milk will be packaged in battles and ready to sell.

During my research I found a web site called PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, in this web site I found a short article tells people how the cows treat when they produce milk for humans. They claims “Calves are generally taken from their mothers within a day of being born—males are destined for veal crates or barren lots where they will be fattened for beef, and females are sentenced to the same fate as their mothers”. By reading these I think people may really treat cruel for the cows and I really started to think about to stop drinking milk. This short article also mentioned that “A cow's natural lifespan is about 25 years, but cows used by the dairy industry are killed after only four or five years. An industry study reports that by the time they are killed, nearly 40 percent of dairy cows are lame because of the intensive confinement, the filth, and the strain of being almost constantly pregnant and giving milk”. I can hardly imagine if the cows have thought and can speak, what they will say to humans and how can they get though the tough time, and in the middle of their life the cows will face the death.

From my prospective, even though I drink milk every day and we all knows milk has a lot of nutrition and good for your health, but I think if anyone know how the companies to produce the milk and know what kind of things the cows struggle with, the person will think about am I doing it right by drinking milk every day? Still, people will say through Darwin's theory of evolution: Survival of the fittest law of the jungle. Human is in the top of the food chain, so whatever the human do is no right or wrong. Thinking about the two attitudes for the milk, I would like to say both aspects are right base on what your thoughts are. Maybe I wake up tomorrow morning and still have glass of milk.

The Reasons Cause the Eating Disorder

In the article “Our National Eating Disorder”, the author Pollan talks about what cause the national eating disorder. In order to illustrate his idea he gives us two reasons. In the article he claims that “A scientific study, a new government guideline, a lone crackpot with a medical degree can alter this nation’s diet overnight”, so we see the government can influence people’s eating habits. Although the government guideline is based on some data, but obviously this is not good for everyone. So when you fellow the government’s guideline but not considering your own habit, then the eating disorder may occur. The other reason is the food from outside of the country. America is a nation of immigrants, so there are a lot of different cultures which means different kinds of food. Then whatever kind of food the American have is not strange.

The interesting part for me is the second reason cause the eating disorder. In my last essay I also talks about almost the same thing. I think the immigrants and other countries’ food can not only cause the eating disorder, but also may change a country’s whole food culture. As the developing of transportation, our world is becoming smaller and smaller. The new can eat different kinds of food only stay in one place. That is why I think the second point from the author is interesting.
